Now onto the contestants who didn’t actually make the cut for Monsta X. It was a little hard for me to watch the second part because, of course me watching it now means I know they will never make it. On top of that, there was actually a few contestants who stood out to me. I wonder what happens to those who don’t make the cut? Do they just go into training or?
The two maknae’s of the group, Yoonho and Seokwon. Starship, you did this on purpose didn’t you? You know the crazy ones were gonna ship this so hard. Bruh, as soon as they put in that one shower scene of them together, I was like- AIIIIITEEEEEEE. Chilllllll Starship chillll. There’s an evident divide between them personality wise though. Seokwon being a bit more clumsy than Yoonho. Yoonho showing serious determination. Although that may be because this guy has been training for 6 EFFIN years. How do you even know that your fit for an idol by then?
Anyway Yoonho… hmm… his dancing was better than his rap. Like I said previously, Wheesung was my twin for this because his comments were exactly what I was thinking when viewing his performance. His first sentence or two was proper deep, making me feel like, “ooh yeahh that sexy voice”. #SorryIfThatSoundedWeird But then later he kind of became, sorry to say this, the idol rapper norm. The rap had no substance to it and it felt like for a Kpop idol yeah his rap skills fits it. I know this is a controversial topic, and I don’t really have a problem with idol rappers, some I love for their talent. But Yoonho just wasn’t that great to me.
Seokwon flopped his performance just like Wonho. I could sense there was something there but it was also not there- that’s how I felt about his performance. He seemed way too tense for his singing. The judges also didn’t take his performance too well, commenting how it didn’t live up to the actual nature of the song. I kind of felt bad for this one because I dunno if rapping (or song writing? is that what it’s called?) suits him better. Because that freestyle at the end bloopers was sick.
There’s such a thing as old rap? At least Mad Clown still liked it I guess? I didn’t even know but whatever, this guys skills and lyrical talent is on point. #GUN. That’s it, full stop. I would have LOVED to see this guy debut… even if it was solo. He sort of caught my attention after the Monsta X members did because of his eyes. Am I only the one who found them striking? Either that or his eyebrows were on flock. Yes I meant to say flock. This guy was one of the contestants I ended feeling a strong connection to. His backstory was depressing and you could sense his emotions flow through his lyrics well. It was purposeful and I was lapping it up. He was my favourite performance out of all 12 hands down. During his performance there was no sound from anyone. We were all just speechless. #ReppinThe94Line
I could tell from this mission that Kwang Ji was gonna be the mother of the group. I mean he made bentos for the maknae’s before their entrance exam and leaves chocolates on purpose for the members to munch on. He definitely had a different vibe to him in comparison to the other rappers. Like a slow RnB, Ima about to explode them kitties with my rap, vibe. Yup I went there. I disagree with Hyorin that his performance had a more chilling vibe in comparison to Jooheon. However I do think he was another equally good rapper because his style is just different to be comparing the two. That’s why I was glad he chose a Crush song. He also has such a cute smile. I saw that scrunch up face Jooheon after Hyroin’s comment. He’s such a competitive numpty.
Minkyun looks like the baby sun from Teletubbies. That smile is blinding. Although I’m gonna have to disagree with him when he said his voice was his weapon. You’re so sweet Minkyun but your performance to me was the worst. I don’t know if he was trying too hard with his voice but it came out all too wrong. Maybe it was just his song choice that didn’t flaunt his voice enough but it really, really needed rethinking.
Yoosu on the other hand slightly shocked me. When they first showed him with a number 12 I thought he was quite bad. But during his rehearsals and performance he definitely has a distinctively low, mellow voice. I liked it. Very Kdrama like. His personality though makes me wonder if I would ever get along with him. We will see…
On to the rankings, I’m not gonna say everyone’s but just to point out a few I thought didn’t make sense. Minkyun as 9? I would of said 12 personally. Yoonho as 6 also didn’t make sense to me, I would have put Hyungwon before him. I felt like he could do way better than what was actually performed. My personal ranking for the particular mission?
5 Kwang Ji
11 Min Hyuk
