Ok I couldn’t be bothered to wait till the next episode to do a 2 episode review. Plus I think there was only supposed to be one episode this week because of a baseball game? Yeah I just couldn’t be bothered to wait for subtitles- #StrugglesOfAnInternationalFan
Of course I have to start with everyone’s reaction to Hye Jin’s makeover. Don’t know if you remember my freak out from last week. Joon Woo was my favourite! His hug was so cute but some people got jealous. I was just so happy to see all of them happy to have her back. Yes I also caught that Super Junior reference! Lol reminds me of I Remember You and EXO.
Seems like demon Joon has finally descended from his thrown… for the time being at least. For once we see him and Hye Jin in agreement. This comes when she says that instead of making the 20th anniversary event an extravagant affair, they should make it simple and focus on those who worked behind the scenes. Basically adhering with their original concept. Seong Joon impressed with her input encourages her when giving her scrapbook back to participate more. As well as a gift. Hmm… Seong Joon when are you going to clock on?
Shin Hyuk however gets jealous of the fact that he got her a welcome present. His attempt to get a way better gift was too funny, however the difference in the gifts was so evident. One being purely material whilst the other has a special meaning behind it.
Ha Ri and Seong Joon on the other hand to me seem close to ending their chapter. Ha Ri made me tear up in this episode; no joke. And it takes a lot from a drama to get me to that point. Shin Hyuk ends up taking a collapsed Ha Ri to hospital after she fails to meet Seong Joon to talk things out. Turns out she had stomach aches due to extreme mental stress. You can feel her guilt a lot in this episode and she looks weak. Shin Hyuk tells her she shouldn’t wait so long and should realise the boundary she’s overstepping. Her response was heart breaking. Seong Joon was her first love, especially considering her past on the topic of love. Although to me it was a matter of Seong Joon being their at the right place at the right time.
I feel like Shin Hyuk sees her as a little sister. In that he’s has one eye on her. Like I said before, he’s someone unknown whom is removed from the situation enough to be able to tell all her issues to without backlash. We all have those friends, the ones your not particularly tight with but you tell them a lot of secrets. I especially loved their bike ride scene because she looked like she really needed it. She was able to just let loose and free her mind. It was cute how their friendship is forming. Me like.
Seong Joon flops their 20th event however with his late arrival (due to the rain cause you know how it reminds him of his mother). This following scene irked me a little. The rest of the Team are bitching about the fact that he hasn’t apologised for his lateness nor given a valid reason. This mainly stems from the fact that earlier on he screws Sun Min’s bad punctuality when her car broke down. Hye Jin gets angry at them for spouting nonsense without knowing what actually may have happened. No offence I wanted to give her a diirrttttttyyy look. This time I agree with Seong Joon. She was overreacting and just… argh can you not? Lets get real here, if you hadn’t known his past you would be saying the exact same sh*t as them. You can’t even deny it. It was his fault- end of. Sorry I had to let out that mini rant because it pissed me off. #OverreactionMuch
Anyway we Hye Jin ends up taking the opportunity to write an article and so ends up borrowing a car to visit an interviewee. Unfortunately she’s taken Sun Mi’s car. Both Shin Hyuk and Seong Joon upon hearing this leg it to her. It was basically a race to see who gets to her first since ultimately it’s sort of sign indicating who will be the one. Peak times for Ha Ri too since she was going to give him her letter explaining everything. He just dashes past her forgetting his date with her in the process. A big mistake I believe since that’s another missed change to heal things earlier on. Meaning of course bigger wounds later on. Unsurprisingly Seong Join made it first and grasps Hye Jin into an aggressive hug as soon as he sees her. His outburst just proves how he has obvious feelings he has for her and he knows it. On his car ride over he thinks about all the times he’s had with her and gets even more agitated. Well well… finally we are making progress! On the opposite side we see Shin Hyuk looking at them. I feel distraught and torn for Shin Hyuk. I mean he can clearly see that they want each other and he even made them realise it themselves. Yet how does he have the courage to see them like that despite his feelings? How does the dude stay CALM? HOW BRUH? He confuses my feelings. Not gonna lie a part of me was wondering how the hell Seong Joon got there first since Shin Hyuk left earlier. Unless it was intentional?
I have two surprisingly. It’s been a while since I had two but these two were really good ones which I could not miss highlighting.
This scene gave me a symptom I call “oh my god I can’t believe I’m gonna cry lemme hold that ish in”. Ha Ri seeing Hye Jin making porridge for her gives her a flashback to a similar scene from the past. Her stepmother (who by the way is absolutely raw) gives her money to go buy medicine for her stomach aches and leaves her to suffer. Hye Jin brings homemade porridge to get her to feel better just like her birth mother used to. We see her hug Hye Jin and break down into tears because she’s so thankful to have her there to support her. If anything the flashback solidifies the fact that Hye Jin is Ha Ri’s rock.Their friendship… ah man I don’t even know if I can call it that. She’s been there for her during depressing times and has never betrayed her. This thought clearly haunts Ha Ri as she begins to cry on Hye Jin’s shoulder but insists she’s fine. Oh Ha Ri I just want to give you a massive bear hug even though I will probably only be at your boob height. It was heart breaking to watch. You can see how much the guilt is eating her up, yet she still believes that hiding it all is the best option given how she has broken a vital girl code. I guess to be honest it’s not entirely her fault since she did initially not tell her because she didn’t want her to worry anymore.
The story about the god of opportunity from Seong Joon. One because it was thoughtful of him to make Hye Jin realise that she needs to take on the article opportunity. A few episodes back she mentions how her dream is to become a children’s book author. Therefore given the concept of the magazine it would make sense to test out her skills now. Secondly because his words are so true in real life too! Once its gone, its gone. I learnt that the long way. 😑
