From the last two episodes there was a distinct divide between both “HaJoon” (yes that’s their couple name for now) and “HyeShin”. It wasn’t until the end we saw the pairings begin to subtly switch. These two episodes however pretty much places everyone all over the place. I think I said “ahh sh**” at least 4 times.
The tables have finally turned. Before Hye Jin was the one who was driving herself crazy over Seong Joon. Now it is Seong Joon who is hyperaware of Hye Jin. Not only that but in Ep 5 he begins to worry about Hye Jin. When he tells her to stop being a pushover and even grabs her to put a new band aid after cutting it on glass at his. Not sure if this was because she got a sandwich for him out of worry, or if he really is beginning to notice her after the airport incident. Hye Jin I think your kindness is too much- in reality you’d be treaded on by people. I personally understand the team’s reason for not extending the lunch invite to him because come one… he is such a buzz kill.
The turning point for Seong Joon was definitely the end of Ep 5. He passes a car accident triggering his memory of his mother’s death. Suffering a panic attack he lays motionless in the. Hye Jin sees him and goes to help. They end up having a reenactment of that scene from the flashbacks which must be the reason why Seong Joon looks at her more fondly. Hye jin gets way too gassed because her first thought as to why he touches her was because she may have looked pretty that day. Really girl?
This scene probably explains why the dude ends up staring at her all the time after that. To the point where he even buys her medicine for her cold from the rain. Sorry bruh but you had to get cockblocked by Shin Hyuk, he just got there before you. But it was so cute that he ended up getting her onion to help! And we finally see him smile. All be it from a smiling onion. #LoveMakesPeopleCrazy
We do see him consult his psychologist (I think?) at one point over how Ha Ri seems so foreign to his first love whilst Hye Jin actually feels right. The irony in that moment. The psychologist basically said exactly what I was thinking when I first started watching this drama. How does he expect someone to be exactly the same from 15yrs ago? I totally agree with his advice when he tells him to get over his past and live in the present because believe me I don’t even remember my first love.
Whilst Seong Joon is slyly falling for Hye Jin, Ha Ri is dangerously drowning herself in her confused feelings. Whilst on a date with some saddo she runs after Seong Joon to tell him the movie over a song they were singing to. What is it with all the cheesy lines in this drama from the sidemen? Her feet begins to bleed because she bought some nice shoes a size smaller since she wanted it. You could basically see the comparison of what the assistant told her about the shoes to the present. “Even if you want it now, it might hurt you later”. Yup, that was probably the perfect way to symbolise it. But those shoes are white, and yet I see no stain? Oh Kdrama, you and your production. Though Seong Joon did cheer up Ha Ri with his singing, I don’t think he should try singing again. Even I had to take my headphones off. 🙈
Sadly for her, Seong Joon begins to lose his intrigue. Especially in the scene where she enjoys the rain and doesn’t say that famous phrase once the green light comes on. Honestly how does he remember all of these behaviours about his first love? I can’t even remember what I ate this morning.
Seong Joon now sees Shin Hyuk as a fly on the wall, everytime he catches him and Hye jIN having fun he looks like he wants to swat him away. But Shin Hyuk is starting to fill the Oppa role nicely. Earlier on we see Hye Jin find the other puzzle piece but the clumsy girl as usual drops it in front of Seong Joon’s office. She panics but instead Shin Hyuk saves her when Seong Joon almost sees it. I love the way he went about taking the attention away. And I like this new Bromance ship- I shall name it ShiJoo. Sounds like a Pokemon doesn’t it?
Turns out Hye Jin actually told Shin Hyuk everything that drunken night. That’s how he knew the puzzle piece was important. Thankfully it was to him and to Seong Joon I guess. I had an “aw” moment when she tells him her reason for not revealing the truth- he called her prettyyy. After apologising for not realising he himself has problems they make the younger sibling name official. It’s so true; people don’t realise that the ones who are always smiling are actually suffering. That’s also a scary thought when you think about it. I quite like the sibling vibe rather than a romantic one, I don’t know why but he plays that role well. It’s so clear especially when he takes her porridge for her to a ill Seong Joon. I feel like he did it, despite cracking up at Seong Joon’s state, because he worries that she will get hurt if she went.
It seems obvious to me that Shin Hyuk will be the first one to uncover the mess in the lies. Especially since now I can see a connection establishing itself between him and Ha Ri. We see them come together a couple of times throughout because they become indebted to each other. The main one starting with calling him a tramp, but that was his fault for looking like a hobo. #NoOffence You can see them getting closer and becoming stranger friends. What are stranger friends? You know those people who you vaguely know, but you can talk at ease with about your problems since they are far removed from them. When she asks him to pretend to be her man to get rid of Seong Joon was one moment you could see it clearly. To be honest he could have fit the puzzle together in this episode if the date had gone ahead but i guess they purposely avoided it since it is too early. Plus where’s the drama in that? The biggest, and ironic, moment was where she tells him how she unknowingly keeps falling hard for someone event hough he is forbidden. Shin Hyuk on the other hand encourages her to stop over complicating and go for it. We find her get those too small shoes out again. These shoes seems to be becoming a symbol of her love for Seong Joon. If only Shin Hyuk knew why exactly.
There was this one scene I quite liked where Ha Ri and Hye Jin end up in bed together. Not in that way but Hye Jin can sense the worry coming from Ha Ri. But instead they both comfort each other despite not saying directly what’s going on. It was like they trusted each others decisions. I felt bad for Ha Ri because you can tell she knows how much of a big mistake she’s making. Especially when she took the puzzle piece and showed it to Seong Joon. I was screaming are you mad?! That was a step too far and what’s worse is her mum catches her at the restaurant with him. She ends up using it to her advantage as she makes her beg her to pretend she didn’t see or hear her use a fake name. Worse than that is when she begins to cry in front of Seong Joon. Because he ends up throwing away his happy onion friend sort of symbolising that he’s not gonna go there and still live in the past. This is what I meant by the relationships becoming a confused mess.
BUT the ending got me wanting more. Because although he decides to cut off any thoughts of Hye Jin, fate has other plans. They end up having to travel to a business trip together since her boss can’t make it. It probably doesn’t help that Han Seol’s determination to lock Joon Woo leaves them alone as she lies so she can catch her prey. Poor Shin Hyuk also doesn’t get that meal he was hoping for either. By the way Joon Woo’s English is pretty sick.
Probably my all time favourite part of these episodes was the new one sided bromance that has blossomed. It was hilarious how every time Shin Hyuk came close to Seong Joon he would just freak out. This guy even ends up feeding the porridge Hye Jin gave. As well as staying the night and jacking some of his classy US underwear- oh wait I mean ‘panty’.
There was an odd scene after Ha Ri and Hye Jin visit Hye Jin’s family in Ep 3. After they leave we see Hye Jin’s mother text someone about how one of them looks exactly like someone’s daughter. I sort was a little confused but could it be she’s in touch with Ha Ri’s real mother?
And yes I did catch that ironic moment about diversity from Siwon. But I have no comment for that. #CasjAvoidingTheDrama
