You know, every episode that I’ve watched so far has never failed to end without highlighting how much of a genius Lee Hyeon is. Like no joke
So instantly the episode reveals the perpetrator (Yang Seung Hoon), to be a Chaebol, and Ji An brings him in for investigation. But she seems to be getting nowhere as Seung Hoon uses pleads self-defence from the victim’s attack. Additionally there seems to be no evidence produced to be able to keep him in. Lee Hyeon seeing how miserably the investigation is going decides to disguise himself as an intern so he can intervene. I love how he just waltzed in picking things up on his way as if he owned the place, thankfully Ji An puts him in his place, as well as getting revenge, by slapping his shoulder. Anyway he acts innocent, naïve and clumsy as he tries to get a confession out of Seung Hoon, first by showing various pictures of victims. They find the picture that unsettles Seung Hoon and Lee Hyeon proceeds to break him down as to why he murdered his girlfriend after being dumped. The answer being an inferiority complex. I really love the sinister way Lee Hyeon breaks him down, it was pretty badass!
Lee Hyeon however is more interested in figuring out who’s been guiding Seung Hoon, as he doesn’t seem to be that clever enough to perform such clean murders. A new character walks in to interrupt the investigation just before Seung Hoon looked like he was going to make a confession. The whole team looked like they were going to murder him and I probably would have too.
But this new character really creeps me out. It’s annoying when you feel like he’s a significant person but don’t know details. He comes earlier in the episode where he convinces the recent victim to not press charges and take full responsibility. Seung Joo does notice him and recognises that he must be the reason why she refuses to talk but it seems he didn’t catch his face. Anyway he also comes as Seung Hoon’s lawyer who seems to instantaneously relaxes him. But this guy seems to be shady and the possible man behind Seung Hoon, but it also seems too simple?
I don’t know who Seung Hoon thinks he is, but threatening Lee Hyeon was a big and stupid mistake. He gives Lee Hyeon a deadline to capture him by. Lee Hyeon, being the boss he is, reminds him he’s not interested in capturing him but his boss. He does however mention the painting, but Seung Hoon knows jack s***.
When sending an email from Ji An’s computer, she begins to show her determination to catch Seung Hoon. However he crashes her dreams stating they have no chance. He does announce that he has ended his cooperation for the case, although I didn’t even realise he openly cooperated to begin with anyway. When Lee Hyeon offers to get rid of him by killing, a flashback is triggered to crazy stalker Ji An hearing Lee Hyeon confess his father is dead because of him.
A little social class conflict is illustrated when Team Leader and their manager request a travel ban. They get rejected for no evidence despite other cases having gone before with less than they have. The powerful always hold the strings it seems. It cracked me up when straight after this, the episode decided to switch to a scene of the team talking about underwear. Sort of reminds me of Jung Kook and Suga from BTS (any Armys get me?).
Although Ji An was warned about contacting Hyeon, she still does interrupting his thought process on who sent him the email. For some weird reason I feel like it may have been Ji An and Lee Hyeon appears to be on the same wavelength as me. She explains the team’s desperate situation and tells him she’s willing to use any means to stop Seung Hoon. After an awkward silence he tells her will help on the condition that she is indebted to him. She agrees but later has second doubts when Lee Hyeon manages to get some of his debt repaid by his art collecting hyung. He forces hyung to hospitalize himself so Ji An can access the VIP room to talk to the victim.
A flashback to the incident occurs when Ji An talks to Hyeon about how its strange that there is no evidence. The flashback shows the victim telling Seung Hoon that the police are coming after warning her and he calls someone for help. It turns out the victim herself was hiding the items! Ji An confronts the victim with Hyeon’s hypothesis in a sympathetic way however it fails. Nonetheless I think the victim purposely doesn’t say anything for self-defence reasons, as it is shown that when giving all the items to the mysterious doctor, he tells her that she is now an accomplice in the crime.
I found this scene quite sweet and sad at the same time. After Ji An, again, interrupts Hyeon whilst eating the scene shows him smiling to his father and younger brother eating with him, having conversations. I guess it signifies the more reason for Hyeon to resolve his past.
It seems that Hyeon was 500 steps in front of everyone. It’s the day Seung Hoon leaves the country, he calls up Hyeon to laugh at him for failing to stop him. Hyena warns him to stay in Korea, but Seung Hoon doesn’t listen and it seems the brainiac tactics strike again. Remember that email Hyeon sent earlier? Apparently they were to the Chinese services for cooperation in the case and so Seung Hoon is arrested aboard the plane for possession. You clever rascal!
As soon as Ji An finds out she rages at him as now she’s the one in trouble. Forget 500 steps, Hyeon is probably 1000 steps ahead in the game as his comeback so her insults clearly shows. He finally asks the question I’ve been wondering for a long time!
