Following from last week Lee Hyeon begins to live his sheltered life away from the world which is sort of depressing to see actually. I mean that itself can make someone go crazy. Not gonna lie when his younger brother knocks on the wall calling for Lee Hyeon to come and play with him it reminded me of the song from ‘Frozen’. “Do you want to build a snowman Lee Hyeon?”
I like the way the episode showed the similarities of Lee Hyeon and Joon Young (yes it turns out I had to learn D.O’s name in the end) being locked away from the world. However Joon Young manages to escape from prison and it is revealed via a flashback with Lee Hyeon on how he manages to escape successfully. It turns out one of the secrets he tells him is that his pulse is hard to detect. I love how Joon Young breaks into Lee Hyeon’s home and his father just casually offers him tea, I guess this being the penultimate scene, the calmness added a eerie element before the fight.
Lee Hyeon’s brother see’s what happens but his reaction is really weird. I’m not sure whether to call him a p**** or what but he just exits like batman through his window and disappears. Lee Hyeon bangs on the door but somehow it opens at the end of the fight to see his father dead. It seems that the reason why this whole story has begun again is because Lee Hyeon has a hole in his memory as to what happened that night. Thus the older Lee Hyeon in a public interview sends a message out to Joon Young for answers.
Ji An seems to be a massive mystery after this episode as many connections to Lee Hyeon and Joon Young are shown. Firstly her aunt recognises who Lee Hyeon is and they have a conversation on how he is their only lead to Joon Young. So I’m intrigued to know who exactly Ji An is. Lee Hyeon revisits the crime scene to inspect the mysterious picture and notices a symbol at the edge of the photo. This part got me worried because a flashback to his brother showing his signature on a drawing exactly matches the picture. What was scary is how you actually see the little brother sketching in the book with the gruesome drawings, not Lee Hyeon, yet in the previous episode he told his father that it was his older brother who drew those drawings. Lee Hyeon after inspecting the apartment comes to the conclusion that the picture must have been a gift to the lady, as it doesn’t match the interior. Ji An who has Lee Hyeon on GPS, also arrives at the apartment and the camera begins to match both of their footsteps. Unfortunately she doesn’t find much, and nor can the team. They turn to her to ask if she has managed to get corporation with Lee Hyeon. She turns away looking guilty and brushes them off saying she hasn’t used her looks yet. Yes we all know how true that is Ji An…
So with more enthusiasm she dresses up a little to see Lee Hyeon at his lecture. This girl, honestly! She tries to get his attention but after being ignored she ends up getting humiliated.
Lee Hyeon initially plays hard to get when Ji An asks for corporation as he still doesn’t know her true identity and she tries to lie by saying she’s a fan but he doesn’t buy it. Lee Hyeon comes up with a theory as at the crime scenes there were purple flowers. Ji An says maybe it was their favourite colour but he tells her that it could be connected to the mythology of Hyacinth where Hyacinth was loved by two men and died because of their jealousy. Where the blood was spilled purple flowers bloomed. She tries to again be witty by complaining how women are always in the middle despite the time period but he outwit her by stating that Hyacinth was a man. Maybe its just easier to accept Lee Hyeon is too smart for all of us. According to Lee Hyeon’s calculations the third murder should have occurred by now and begins to contemplate why it hasn’t. But she seems to look worried with his comment afterwards.
He tells Ji An that his theory is that when comparing both corpses they were similar in features. Furthermore on both corpses it seemed the perpertrator purposely didn’t want to leave any marks on them so he used suffocation and strangulation. However he identifies that on the second corpse violence was used and he deduces that to the fact that that victim had recently cut her hair short. Thus he concludes that the murderer doesn’t think he has been killing different people, but to him he has been killing the same person. So he gives Ji An a list of tasks to tell the team to figure out such as if there are any places both women visited, similar symbols to that of the first murder etc. It’s cute how whilst she’s relaying the information to the team she mentally keeps thinking about Lee Hyeon’s comments. Girl you in lurrveee…
Oh my Buddha I can’t believe I didn’t make the connection that the lady officer from the flashbacks was the investigation team’s manager! So that’s why he was let off so easily! Since she took on the role of his mother after the incident her and Lee Hyeon meet up for drinks where requests to see his father’s murder case file . She lies about the existence of the file and a flashback tells the viewer that there must be something significant on that file. I had to do a double take when she starts searching for the file and the camera switches to Ji An reading it.
Sleeping Seo In Guk is so adorable! He has a dream (or was it real?) on an interaction between him and Joon Young that night. I was slightly confused over what the hell was going on…
The team begins to move forward as Ji An finds the code from the crime scene and the others track down a Spa which both women visited. I personally would have been shook to even enter the house at that time I mean, she even encounters the dead lady’s spirit at one point. Knowing me I would have ran out of there ASAP.
OH MY SWEET BUDDHA. A shower scene… Anyway Ji An runs into Lee Hyeon in his dressing gown asking for help on the code as it leads them into an ocean. Yet again he confirms he is above average intelligence and seems to have accumulated a fan. (Not that Seo In Guk needs any more fans to be honest)
The ending was epic! So once getting the number of the next victim Ji An relentlessly tries to get a hold of and rescue the victim. She manages to arrive in time but her face looks a little shocked over the faceless perpetrator so it’s going to be interesting to see who it is. At the same time Lee Hyeon is listening to his father’s interviews with Joon Young till suddenly the tape stops. Instead the tape rolls on and it is Joon Young talking to him as if he’s there. I again would have smashed the tape and legged it to a temple but Lee Hyeon just stands there smiling. What? Too many twists for me to handle! Can’t wait for episode 2 to reveal what’s going to happen next!
